SHSAT Exam Preparation
The SHSAT (Specialized High Schools Admissions Test) is the entrance exam for eight specialized high schools — including Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. Admission to these elite public schools is based solely on SHSAT scores, making thorough preparation absolutely essential.

Exam Components
English Language Arts (ELA)
Includes reading comprehension passages with multiple-choice questions requiring evidence-based answers, as well as revising/editing questions that test grammar, vocabulary, and writing mechanics.
Mathematics
Covers the middle school math curriculum — arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics. Includes both multiple-choice and grid-in (free response) questions requiring precise calculations.
Skills Tested
Both sections of the SHSAT demand more than basic knowledge. Students must demonstrate critical thinking, analytical reasoning, careful reading, and effective time management. The ability to work efficiently under pressure and eliminate incorrect answers quickly is what separates top scorers from average performers.
