Exam Structure
The GRE General Test is computer-based and takes about 1 hour 58 minutes. There is no unscored section and no scheduled break. Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning are section-level adaptive: the difficulty of your second section depends on how you did on the first.

Timing and Scoring
The GRE is tightly timed — about 1.5 minutes per question in Verbal Reasoning and about 1.75 minutes per question in Quantitative Reasoning — so success takes both content mastery and quick decision-making. Verbal and Quantitative scores range from 130 to 170 in 1-point steps; Analytical Writing is scored 0–6 in half-point steps.
