IELTS Test Preparation
The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is one of the most widely accepted English proficiency exams in the world. While it is particularly popular among students applying to European universities, IELTS results are recognized by thousands of institutions across the United States, Canada, Australia, and beyond.
Similar in scope to the TOEFL, the IELTS assesses reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. At Lingva Pro learning center, our IELTS preparation courses give you the targeted practice and strategies you need to reach your goal score.
Two Types of IELTS
There are two types of the IELTS test: IELTS Academic (for university admission and professional registration) and IELTS General Training (for migration and work experience). The Listening and Speaking sections are the same for both, but the Reading and Writing tasks differ.
The Listening, Reading, and Writing sections are completed on the same day with no breaks between them. The Speaking component can be scheduled up to a week before or after the written test.
Total test time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Exam Structure
| Section | Details | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Listening | 40 questions across 4 recordings (dialogues and monologues) | 40 minutes |
| Reading | 3 texts with 40 questions (multiple choice, matching, completion) | 60 minutes |
| Writing | 2 tasks — describe a graph/chart + argumentative essay | 60 minutes |
| Speaking | 3 parts — introduction, long turn, and discussion | ~15 minutes |
Scoring
IELTS scores range from 0 to 9, in half-point increments. Each section receives an individual band score, and the overall band score is the average of all four. Most universities require a minimum of 6.0–7.0 for admission.
